Document Summary

How the time between the response and the delivery of the outcome (the reinforcement) affects learning. What happens when you get outcome repeatedly without a response: learned helplessness, no way to control situation so stop trying, retard instrumental conditioning be repeated outcome without allowing any response to alter that outcome. Then when they are allowed to alter the outcome, they don"t do it. Can get repeated unnecessary response (superstitious behavior) for outcome particularly early in the learning. The opposite scenario: perform a response but only sometimes get a desired outcome. The rule that determines how and when a response will be reinforced. Simple schedules of reinforcement: a single factor determines which occurrence of the response is reinforced. Ratio schedules: the delivery of reinforcement depends on the number of responses the animal has performed. Reinforcement given for preset number of responses. Note: crf is a fixed ratio schedule of 1, thus referred to as fr1.
