PSYC 215 Lecture Notes - Lecture 7: Self-Perception Theory, Nutmeg, Pumpkin Pie
Document Summary
My self-concept changed a little- emphasized a part of myself. Happens so quickly and so often that we are not aware of the fact that we are making sense of what we are looking at. Same thing happens when it comes to ourselves, we may feel like we just know who we are but it is probably not entirely true. How do we go about forming an idea of who we are- self-construal processes. How tall/wide we are, what we look like. Then to build a sense of self children do this and adults do it too, we continually maintain a sense of who we are by assimilation and differentiation: Differentiation- the way i am diff. from others. How do you chose the 30 events you include out of the millions that happen to you- as the key events that define who you are.
