How do we come to know the internal" aspects of ourselves, such as attitudes, emotions, motives, traits, etc. To the extent that internal cues are weak or ambiguous, we infer our own internal states much as we infer those of others. Similar to social perception: when we get to know someone else, we think we see exactly what"s there, but we know that there is some construal/selectivity that goes on. The same thing applies to getting to know ourselves, at least to some extent. I sometimes leave the water running while i brush my teeth.
