Income has an independent effect in association with political knowledge. Over and above the effect of education, income makes a difference. If you are struggling to just get by, putting an effort into paying attention to politics is a luxury. You only have access to the info on the internet if you have a high speed connection and a laptop. If you can only connect at the library, you have to be pretty motived to seek info.
