Hist 316 lecture 18 conference 7. The komuch was a committee set up by the right-srs who wanted to call the constituent assembly and form a rival center of power. Their program is very similar to the one of the bolsheviks on the question of the peasants. They also wanted to protect the workers on trade unions, but they were more comprehensive with employers as they allowed them to fire workers who wouldn"t work well or who were not necessary for the production. However, the komuch didn"t succeed because they couldn"t manage to get enough volunteers for their. Under the conditions of civil war in russia, you wouldn"t hope to succeed with an army of this size. Another reason could be that they allowed workers to be fired so they automatically got less support from this social class.
