The russian army disintegrates after the revolution and some of the officers figure that they have to fight the bolsheviks because they thought they were selling russia to germany. Led by alekseev they move to the city of rostov and form the volunteer"s army. General alekseev is the one who made the tsar step down so he is not very right -wing. He is joined in his fight by the general kornilov who will lead the 3. 000 volunteers that joined the army. Many of them were very well trained officers so this army was pretty strong in terms of fighting capabilities more than in terms of sheer numbers. In the don (region), the don cossacks, the most famous cossacks group, join the volunteers. They were a social group between the nobles and the peasants, so they had large farms and hated the bolsheviks because they wanted to keep them.
