Semiotics is the study of meaning-making, the philosophical theory of signs and symbols. Cultu(cid:396)e is (cid:374)ot fi(cid:454)ed, it also is (cid:396)elatio(cid:374)al (cid:894)i a(cid:374)d (cid:455)ou (cid:396)elatio(cid:374)ship(cid:895). Whe(cid:374) (cid:455)ou fa(cid:272)e a jagua(cid:396), it"s i(cid:373)po(cid:396)ta(cid:374)t that it sees you as a being like him. The jaguar has a point of view, it is a self; there is a new kind of anthropology that studies these relationships. We still need a framework to understand this. Some ways of shaking it up: new technologies, new ideas about sex, amazonian perspectivism, semiotics (study of signs; another way to think of the dichotomy). Deacon: we can see a way to think of thought not just as something that humans do about the world. Semiotics is an interesting framework to let us see where human though came from and continuous with the biological world (which is not like human thought). Evolution and emergence of culture and the relation that (cid:272)ultu(cid:396)e has to thi(cid:374)gs that a(cid:396)e(cid:374)"t (cid:272)ultu(cid:396)al.
