There either is or is not a functional relationship: ex. (abab design, a teacher paying attention to a student vs. not paying attention to them. Any behaviour that can potentially be observed by an individual other than the one performing the behaviour. Behaviour that can only be perceived by the person performing the behaviour: appetite and aversive stimuli, appetite stimulus. An event that an organism will seek out: aversive stimulus. Event that an organism will avoid: motivating operations, anything that affects the appetitiveness or aversiveness of an event, two types. Increases the appetitiveness or aversiveness of an event: ex. hungry so you seek out food. Decreases the appetitiveness or aversiveness of an event: ex. given morphine, then having a hammer slammed onto your hand.
