It is the behavior dependent upon the manipulation of the iv. Functional relationship: the relationship between changes in the iv and dv, cause and effect relationship. Stimulus/stimuli: something that can potentially influence a behavior. Appetitive stimuli: an event an organism will seek out, pleasant. Aversive stimulus: an event an organism will avoid, unpleasant. Deprivation: prolonged absence of a stimulus or event. Typically increases the appetitiveness of the stimuli when it returns. Food deprivation makes food more appealing when it is available. Satiation: prolonged exposure to a stimulus or event. Typically decreases the appetitiveness of the event when it returns. Ex- hotdogs as a prize for a hotdog eating contest. One event predicts the possibility of the next event.
