Remember that simply because physician-assisted active euthanasia and suicide is now legal in. First, most of the world has made it illegal (canada is one of small handful of countries that has legalized it). There is a very important distinction between law and morality, and as you know from history, many things that were once legal, are not considered morally wrong (e. g. slavery; segregation; women not being considered persons under the law, etc. Be sure to consider all the ethical questions that surround this issue. For many hcp human life commands respect and reverence by its very nature. There is a dignity and mystery to human life itself. For such hcps, we don"t simply respect human life by agreement, or because the patient gives us consent. The respect and reverence for the dignity of human life is what restricts the hcps power. The principles of beneficence, non-maleficence, and respect for autonomy are central to the debates on euthanasia.
