PHIL-201 Lecture Notes - Lecture 18: Ad Hominem, Cultural Relativism
Document Summary
The fallacies fit into the continuum because when one moves from wrong view to right view we present reasons and argument. When we give reasons or arguments, we are just attaching beliefs to the position thus we cant do such when we want to move to no view. If we take the position of no view and simply refrain from arguing for it, this is seen as a fallacy in logical philosophy we seem to be accepting an argument just on authority alone. Even right view has subparts on the continuum: the lower right view involves thinking in terms of karma and rebirth, the accumulkation of good merit and bad, and revolve around this idea of the self being reborn. Karma is a lesser goal, a desire for good rebirth for oneself. 121:the higher sense of right view: attaches the highest value to doctrines as means, not ends in themselves.
