Document Summary

The early sutras included meditation as a method into insight doctrines are to be used in meditation. To see his mental events in a manner which conforms to the values/beliefs. Perception was to be molded by philosophy, and meditation was the workshop . Suffering, no self, and impermanence as doctrines are to guide perception, be incorporated into the way one views their mental events. Believing and arguing for them is not enough should influence how one encounters and views themselves and reality. Mindfulness and meditation allow us to transform the doctrines from simple belief to perception of them in their own life: the notion of sati: (mindfulness): actually means memory or recollection. Page 112: the satipatthana instructs his audience on what he defines as the one path, or the direct path. Memory is also required, not just bare attention. Medidtation should shape observation so one doesn"t just repeat the truths of doctrine but sees them.
