* political system - kinds of formal social equality; formal leadership that exist within a society. * four major forms of social organizations: bands, tribes, cheifdoms, states, bands. * associated of small and mobile societies (hunting and gathering societies such as mbuti). * kin-based => members are related to each other; families living together and cooperating in economic activities (blood and marriage). * cooperation is the strongest element in bands. * social political organizations => bands are egalitarian, meaning everyone has equal status. Leadership tends to be highly informal => situational and temporary (no special political roles or leaders with designated authority). => ex: someone who is good in hunting will guide and teach other members. Once they are all back to the village, everyone will have equal status again. * two different kinds of bands: simple bands - single extended family and relatively small.
