Document Summary

Died in 2008; donated his brain to scoemce. Got hit by a car when he was a kid which caused him to have seizures. Took out parts of the brain that were causing seizures. Removed temporal lobe = very effective but suffered memory loss. For example, couldn"t remember his face or lay down any new memories. Brenda millner asked h. m to trace within two lines of the star, while viewing only the reverse image of the star in a mirror. The image was inverted so each time h. m moved his hand in one direction, the movement oh his hand went into the opposite direction. H. m had to do this task 10 times a day for 3 days. Even though h. m could not recall ever doing the task before his drawings did improve - no conscious memory. This showed that there were other sections of the brain responsible for memory other than temporal lobe.
