Gene for serotonin transporter protein thought this was the gene for depression, but looked in a larger sample size and it was disproved. One study found a variant that correlated with depression. Later study, same variant found to correlate with depression when individual exposed to early traumatic events (i. e. during childhood) Since discovery in 2003 (by caspi et al, 2003, cited in your text), many groups repeated study. 26% of studies (out of 81) could not replicate, but most could using the same methods. If (cid:455)ou (cid:272)a(cid:374)(cid:374)ot repli(cid:272)ate it (cid:1005)(cid:1004)(cid:1004)% of the ti(cid:373)e, so(cid:373)ethi(cid:374)g is(cid:374)(cid:859)t right. Latest study (2016) concluded that no firm conclusion possible. Slight variants in many, many genes add up to make you more predisposed towards mental illnesses in some people.
