Basic elements of respiratory control: elements to the respiratory control system: Sensors (i. e. chemoreceptors, lungs, and other receptors: gather information, feeds information to the central controller, the sensors provide input to the brain they are groups of cells that taste the environment around them to detect chemical changes. Effectors: the respiratory muscles of the body, affect ventilation, the lungs themselves don"t have muscles attached to them, but the respiratory events are organized by means of the respiratory muscles (i. e. diaphragm). The driving force for respiration comes from the brain stem. There are 3 components of the respiratory control that interact with one another the effectors, central controller, and the sensors. Components of the respiratory center: pontine respiratory center (pons) Apneustic area: medullary respiratory center (m. oblongata) The brain stem is the first part of the brain.
