THEO 202 Lecture Notes - Lecture 35: Oral Torah, Torah Study, Midrash
Document Summary
If the use of this word confuses you, chances are you"re on the right track. Grammatically, the word torah refers to any kind of instruction, but in practical use: "if someone tells you that there is wisdom in other towns, believe him If someone tells you that there is torah in other towns, do not believe him ". -midrash 2: the torah appears to be different from what we usually call "wisdom. " Our sages even affirm that the torah precedes all existence, 3 that it contains the plane of the cosmos, 4 and that the very existence of the cosmos depends on the torah. 5: even the expression "divine wisdom" is not enough. After all, our universe is made up of divine wisdom. Our environment, our body and even the same psyche with which we perceive all this have an unfathomable design. "how wonderful are your works, o gd," declares the psalmist.
