Document Summary

The fathers primarily view heterosexuality as something that must be coached . They believe that it is something that would develop naturally, with some guidance (i. e the fathers who point out pretty girls to their sons, or who encourage roughhousing). They believe that if they encourage their sons to engage in masculine practices, then being heterosexual will follow. The fathers were more hesitant to talk with their daughters about sex, because they refused to see them as agentic sexual beings, but rather as passive beings who needed to stay away from dangerous and sexually aggressive boys. The daughters were not advised about their own sexual desires, but rather learned about sex and sexuality from the perspective of men are looking at you and i know this because i am a man.
