Document Summary
Chapter 12: the costs and benefits of training programs. Organizations are concerned about the costs and benefits of their training and development programs. Information on costs and benefits of training programs is an important part of training evaluation. Effectiveness of training depends on costs and benefits. Costing is complex and time consuming, yet increased pressure exists to demonstrate financial value of hr and training programs. Hr must be able to calculate and demonstrate results. Justifies share of budget; protects budgets during economic downturns. Costing: the process of identifying all expenditures used in training. Costs directly linked to a particular training program. Ex: trainer"s salary and benefits, equipment rental, food, etc. Costs that support training activities, not directly linked, trainer preparation, costs that cannot be recovered if training does not take place. Needs analysis, design of training materials, evaluating a training. Costs incurred by training department but not associated with any particular training program.
