In montreal we have montroyal in the middle of the city. It is quite unusual to have a mountain in the middle of the big city. We will look at the key role the montroyal played in the development of montreal. 3 summits of mount royal: westmount, outremont, montreal. The mountain is volcanic origin but not a volcano. In the mountain there used to be farms, then 2 big cemeteries (those cemeteries are1st large scale public gardens) Acts as a division of engligh and french westmount vs. outremont. On the south we have mcgill and university de montreal in north. Today it is a place where people go to enjoy nature. It is a reserve one of the few green places in the city where people can go to breath fresh air. Saint catherine street very special commercial street. Department stores (eaton center, bay) that were moved from old montreal into the financial district here (st. catherine street).
