Montreal is divided by the st-laurence boulevard the east side and the west side. So the north is not where north actually is, it is 60 degrees off course. One of the first streets that crossed the island from one side to the other. Completed at the beginning of the 20th ce. In the past, st-laurence was the divider, east was anglo an west was franco. St-lawrence goes through chinatown, old port, jewish area, so on. The harbour: most of the wires and equipment are from the first quarter of 20th century, not very old. Most of the harbour at the time was an inner harbour. This one was created in 20th ce to accommodate much larger ships. River wall- st-laurent. earliest part of the fortification as we know, sea wall, for protection. wall in stone 1717, following plan of chief of engineer of new france. Traces all over the place, not all intact, scattered in old montreal.
