Document Summary
We are not in the business of committing lesser evils for the sake of greater good. Before you involve any human being in a research study, you must obtain the persons informed consent. The word informed means that all of your potential research participants must fully understand what is going to happen in the course of your study, why it is going to happen, and what its effect will be on them. If the person is psychiatrically challenged, mentally delayed, or in any other way incapable of full understanding, your study must be fully and adequately explained to someone else- perhaps a parent, guardian or social worker. All written communications must be written in simple language so the participant can. No research participants can be bribed, threatened or deceived. It is your responsibility to ensure that their understanding is real and complete. Consent must never be obtained through bribery or any form of coercion understand.
