Sex: biological category based on seeing a distinct separation between male or female organs at birth/genetic program of male or female hormones released to stimulate reproductive system (male, female, intersexed, asexual). Outside hormones and sex, looks more the side of feelings and whatnot. Cisgender: adopts the gender that is associated with the sexual organs. Ex: if it has female body parts, then it will be known as a girl. Gender: social category referring to the feelings, attitudes, desires and behaviours that are associated with a particular sexual category. Essentialism, or biological determinism > views gender differences as a re ection of biological differences between essential categories of men and women. Constructionism > differences between what it means to be male and female are socially constructed in practice and ideology. Critiques: used to justify male to male competition and violence and aggressiveness toward women who incite jealousy .
