Ancient mesopotamia p61-66: the cradle of civilization - where many modern technologies still used today were developed. Babylonians: mesopotamian view of the person: created from the mixture of the blood of a sacrificed god and clay, upon death, the person becomes bones and ghost. [this is very similar to the biblical creation of human beings - the key point is that human beings have two elements, an earthly element, and a divine element, the earth and the breath of god]. Battle between marduk and tiamat: world was created through conflict, tiamet represented darkness, nothingness and chaos, marduk was chief of gods of light and life. Ishtar: babylonian fertility goddess: marduk ruler of the gods (responsible for creation of life) In contrast to the mesopotamians, the egyptians believed that they had an opportunity for sometime wonderful in the afterlife. Which might explain why they were so interested in funerary rights. The opposite could be said of the mesopotamians.
