Infants remember and forget, and can be promoted to remember things that they"ve forgotten. Memory rapidly improves in infants and toddlers. Improvements in memory are relayed to growth in the brain: amygdala and hippocampus are related to the initial storage of memories (develop by 6 months, frontal cortex is related to retrieval of stored memories. Use more effective strategies + more knowledge. Tied ribbon from 2-3 month-old infant"s leg to mobile: taught them, remembered a few days later, a few weeks later forgot but if mobile was moved remembered. Three important features of memory are present at 2-3 months of age: event from past is remembered, over time events are no longer recalled, a cue can be used to access past memory. Preschoolers use simple strategies like touching an object (not very effective)
