It is an unlimited capacity store that can hold info over lengthy periods of time. All info stored in long term memory is stored permanently. Forgetting happens because one cannot retrieve the info from long term memory. Flashbulb memories are vivid and detailed recollections of events. Consolidation: is the process by which info in short term memory is transferred to long term memory. Clustering is the tendency to remember similar or related items in groups. So factual information is organized into simple categories. Conceptual hierarchy is a multi level classification system based on based on common properties among items. It is an organized cluster of knowledge about a particular object or event extracted from a previous experience with the object or event. Consists of nodes representing concepts, joined together by pathways that link related concepts. Human brain seems to be extensively dependant on parallel distributed processing.
