Has permissive quality: has the ability to allow certain things to act properly, although serotonin is in control of the illness, that does not mean you can"t make modifications to other units in order to affect the illness. Excitatory: excites the next neuron, glutamate, primary excitatory neurotransmitter. Inhibitory: tells neuron to be quiet, shut down. Gaba: primary inhibitory neurotransmitter, nervous system structured so that we can attend to certain stimuli rather than others, gaba and glutamate balance each other out.
