Document Summary
Lecture 5 crime, law, process and politics: introduction. There are two perspectives to approach women in crime: (1) the criminal law and its development with the woman as the accused person (2) woman from the perspective of being victims and potential victims. Feminist groups have played a huge role in defending accused and crime victims in terms of victimless crimes. We know that not all of these groups are on the same page however. In the 1970s, there was a consensus among these groups however to have more criminal sanctions to deal with domestic abuses amongst woman. The focus was on raising awareness of the issue and educating people on how this is wrong, as well as reducing harm with shelters where these people can obtain assistance. In the 1980s there was a major shift from this perspective. The approach was dealing with domestic violence through criminal sanctions and law.
