Any understanding of how the world works word draws from the enlightenment ie platos allegory of the cave. Consequences of modernity; the biggest one is the mass media. Things that were once small are now huge. We are slowing down from 5 things to 2 things. Moving from olden days up to the present. Ideas that form our theories have existed for a long time, before theory was even thought of. Modernity promoting thinking about how these transitions will affect how we live. These transformations that were brought on by modernity were problematic, negative consequences associated. Le bon, marx and freud are not theorists, their ideas come to be put into use by scholars to make sense of media and communication. They are foundational because they sit at the foundations of what we theorize about today.
