Those who could not doodle, had nothing to supplement the boring lecture so just completely detached. Doodling and listening use 2 different parts of the brain, not interfering much. The theory is that people type too much on the computer, and when people write by hand they are forced to process it and summarize. Since cannot write as fast, have to digest and comprehend what was said to summarize it in your own words, remembering it better: also, you are more easily distracted by the web if you have a computer on. Napping after study improves memory retention: forgetting curves, ankii randomly chooses which cards to show you.
