The big five: extroverted, agreeable- cooperate, social harmony, conscientiousness- disciplined/ follow through with promises, emotional intelligence- manage their emotions and other to the goal, openness to experience- intellectually curious/creative/flexible. Most important trait of a leader as rated by ceos communication: behaviour theories. Managerial grid: a matrix outlining 81 different leadership styles. University of michigan studies: production centered leader behaviour, task focused. Little concern for people: close supervision, poor employee attitudes, high turnover. Little group loyalty: employee-centered leader behaviour, focused on people and their personal success, set high performance goals, good communication of performance expectations. Ohio state leadership studies: initialing structure(task oriented, task, production, consideration(people oriented, empathetic. Interest in developing trust based relationship: can be different combination of high and low of the two styles above like high high/high low/ high med etc, contingency theories. Suggests leadership is not fixed series of characteristics.
