Our senses show us many things that change all the time. Not only is change impossible, but motion is impossible: suggests that it will never reach its destination, it will only become closer and closer. Cratylus says: you can never step into the same river twice, water is constantly moving, and new water is coming about, our senses suggest that we can do this. Heraclatus says: determines reality is many, reality is constantly changing. The forms: like (cid:858)(cid:271)ei(cid:374)g(cid:859) in parmenides, one for everything, absolute- eternal, cannot change, known through reason/ the soul, really real. The particulars: aki(cid:374) to hera(cid:272)litus(cid:859) becoming, many, less real than forms, participate (cid:858)k(cid:374)o(cid:449)(cid:374)(cid:859) (cid:448)ia the se(cid:374)ses. What about the soul: plato(cid:859)s answer: the soul is unique, very much like the forms, more like forms than particulars, plato will offer us proof, based on kinship with the forms.
