Today in lecture we talked about race, and one of the most important questions to ask in our teaching career is how is race manifested in my teaching- without me noticing . We also talked about how addressing issues of race and diversity is a huge part of our professional responsibility and if you are not considered with these issues then one will fall short. In the article by sonia nieto it talked about how many times, teachers will unintentionally discriminate because they fear that talking about race will only make the problem bigger. And failing to discuss racism will not make the issue go away. I am planning to teach somewhere where everyone is white . Now weight privilege is like an invisible weightless knapsack of special provisions, maps, passports etc. We also talked about racism as individual and systemic. Individual racism is- individual acts, conscious, deliberate and chosen.
