ANHB1102 Lecture Notes - Lecture 18: Muscularis Mucosae, Peritoneal Cavity, Lesser Omentum
Document Summary
Major regions of alimentary canal (simpli ed version) - regionalisation and specialisation of different organisms for functions. Contains sphincters and valves to control ow along w accessory organs and glands. Physical breakdown - cutting, grinding, churning, mixing. Nutrients can be absorbed without digestion = vitamins, minerals, water etc. Mucosa = inner layer consisting of epithelium (simple columnar but ends are strati ed squamous), lamina propria (ct), muscularis mucosa (smooth muscle) Submucosa = loose ct w nerves, blood vessels, glands, lymph vessels. Muscularis externa = 2 layers of smooth muscle. Inner circular layer and outer longitudinal layer. Serosa = thin layer of ct and mesothelium (moist layer) or adventitia = brous ct where gut shouldn"t move (ends). Inner circular layer of smooth muscle and outer longitudinal layer of muscle. Segmentation - alternate constriction of rings of smooth muscle (mixes food not along the gut but in one place) Binds viscera to body wall or suspends viscera from the body wall.
