Tissues and skin: name the cell types that make up nervous tissue. Tissue= a group of cells that perform similar function. 2 major cell types: neurons that generate and conduct nerve impulses, supporting cells- neuroglial cells, describe the general characteristics of epithelium. Covers body surfaces, lines body cavities and tubes, forms the secretory glands portion of glands. All 3 do(cid:373)ai(cid:374)s (cid:272)o(cid:374)tri(cid:271)ute to epitheliu(cid:373)(cid:859)s fu(cid:374)(cid:272)tio(cid:374) if (cid:858)(cid:271)arriers. Each surface has specific biochemical characteristics the lateral domain. All epithelium is in direct association with a basement membrane. Manufactured by the epithelium- comprised of various proteins- (can be up to 50) thin layer of intercellular material- 50 to 100nm thickness. Hemi desmosomes + underlying layer of connective tissue fibers attached to bm. Hemi desmosomes are what anchor epithelium to bm. The cell shape is determined by the top layer of cells.
