The hippocampus is a c shaped structure located in the medial temporal lobe. Animals are slightly food deprived and then placed in the centre of the maze. At the end of each arm of the maze is a recessed cup- some contain food (baited. The animal explores the maze and after days of training the animals have solved. It only goes down arms that are always baited- they have a long term mem. As well, animals wont go down a baited arm they have already been down- There are limitations to this maze which makes interpretation difficult.
