Exercise habits - the status quo: 60% of australians are inactive, 20% of australians exercise at a sufficient time and intensity to protect their health. Making exercise a habit: reminder, routine, reward, the benefit you recieve. Missing one opportunity to perform the behaviour did not adversley affect habit forming. Motivation: degree of determination, drive or desire with which an individual approaches/avoids a behaviour, direction and intensity of ones efforts, two main types. Types of motivational statements: high, pleasure and satisfaction, confirm sense of identity, medium, achieving goals, low, gaining others approval or avoiding disapproval, reward or punishment. Addition to the quality of the exercise program itself. Influences behaviour independent of intention and through its effect on intention: self determination. Individuals posess 3 primary psychology needs: self determination (autonomy, self dependent behaviour, demonstrate competence, relatedness.
