Assessments: week 5 lecture (5pm) - 20 minute in class test, 15 multiple choice questions. It is a science - branch of psych concerned with the changes that occur within the learners. Investigates the instructors manipulation of the environment to activate and support the change - ie. instruction, teaching. Investigates the permanent changes resulting from instruction and experience ie. learning: scope of this course; cognitive processes, development, motivation, learning theories, individual differences. Instructional psychology: branch of ed psych that investigates how info should be presented to learners, and what activities they need to be involved in in order to learn more efficiently. Cognitive approach to educational psychology - importance of the active learner. Cognitive psych: cognitive psych followed from general dissatisfaction of behaviourism, cognitive psych investigates mental processes - how people think, learn, perceive, remember. Information (cross-disciplinary definition): feature of objects of different nature that describes structural aspects represented by patterns in their organisation (stonier, 1997)
