Antisocial Personality Disorder (APSD) & Conduct disorder (CD)
Defined in DSM-IV
Focuses on Behaviour, rather than core Personality Traits
Associated with psychopathy but not equivalent
Conduct disorder (CD) in children: a repetitive and persistent pattern of
behaviour in which the basic rights of others or major age appropriate societal
norms or rules are violated (Aggression to people and animals, destruction of
property, deceitful or theft, serious violations or rules)
ASPD: “pervasive pattern of disregard for, and violation of, the rights of others
that begins in childhood or early adolescence and continues into adulthood”
Must be 18+ and show evidence of CD before 15, and must not present with
antisocial behaviour exclusively during course of schizophrenia or a manic
episode
Must present with at least 3 of the following: Failure to conform to social norms,
deceitfulness, impulsivity, irritability and aggressiveness, reckless disregard for
safety of self or others, consistent irresponsibility, lack of remorse
Argued that this could describe many criminals
