The mind-body problem: how are our desires and thoughts related to our bodies, dualist says that there are two things fundamentally in the universe: mental stuff and physical stuff. Cartesian dualism: rene descartes came up with this, considered to be the first modern philosopher, best known for substance dualism about mind and matter. "anything which admits of the slightest doubt i will set aside just as if i had found it to be wholly false; and i will proceed in this way until i recognise something that is certain and unshakeable. " Foundationalism: a view about the proper structure of one"s knowledge or justified beliefs. It says that there is some set of basic beliefs, the justification for all non-basic belief is derived from this set of beliefs. Indubitability of one"s own existence as a mind: matter, the essence of matter is extension, matter is bulky.
