Physicalist functionalism: physicalism says that everything that exists is physical; if minds exist, they are completely explicable in terms of the physical. Identity theory: types of mental states and processes are identical with types of brain states and processes. The human computer is supposed to be following fixed rules; he has no authority to deviate from them. If our minds are simply computers, the machine table we use could be implemented in lots of physical system.
