Document Summary
Week 5: database processing: what is the purpose of a database, what is a database, what is a database management system, how do database applications make databases more useful. Extension: how are database application systems developed, what are the components of the entity relationship data model, how is data transformed into a database design, what is the users role. To organise and keep track of things. Keep lists of single concept, e. g. student test scores in a single subject. Keep lists that involve multiple themes/concepts, e. g. student grades, emails from students, office visits etc. The purpose of a database is to keep track of things that involve more than one theme. A database is a self-describing collection of integrated records. Values in one table may relate to rows/records in other tables. A column or group of columns that identifies a unique row in a table.
