BM1042 Lecture 5: Week 5
Document Summary
List the main bones of the lower limb. Limits extension mostly via winding mechanism: also limits lateral rotation, adduction (upper band), abduction (lower band) Strong: anterior and superior, y-shaped attachments: from anterior inferior iliac spine to intertrochanteric line, upper and lower bands, apex of ligament. Ileum between the aiis and the margin of the acetabulum: base of ligament. Limits extension, lateral rotation and abduction: anterior and inferior, triangular shape, base of ligament, attached medially to iliopubic eminence and obturator membrane. Limits extension, medial rotation and adduction: posterior, weakest of the 3 ligaments. From posterior aspect of acetabulum to greater trochanter. Describe the attachments, innervation, action and blood supply of the gluteal muscles. Describe the bones involved in the articulation at the hip joint. Pelvic girdle: attaches lower limbs to axial skeleton with strongest ligaments of body, via inguinal ligament - infolding of the external oblique and attaches between the asis and pubic tubercle.
