Identify the surface locations of the abdominal organs onto the four quadrants and nine descriptive regions of the abdomen. Located inferiorly to thorax: bound superiorly by diaphragm and inferiorly by pelvic inlet, contains abdominal viscera and peritoneal cavity. Inferior boundary - inguinal ligament and pelvic bones. 4 and 9 quadrant planes: 4 quadrant, lies between thorax and pelvis, ant and post ab walls, lateral walls, roof = diaphragm, no floor, contents. Liver and biliary system: peritoneal cavity, gi organs, pancreas, kidneys and ureters. Suprarenal glands: 9 quadrant, 2 transverse and 2 sagittal planes, superior horizontal plane (subcostal) - immediately inferior to costal margins. Located at lower border of rib 10 cartilage anteriorly and through l2-3 vertebrae posteriorly. Inferior horizontal plane (transtubercular) - connects tubercles of the iliac crests anteriorly and through l5 vertebrae: midclavicular planes (sagittal) - from clavicle to midpoints between asis and pubic symphysis.
