PHTY Week 2 LA Classification of Disability
- Definitions of disability:
o“Disability is any condition of the body or mind (impairment) that makes it
more difficult for the person with the condition to do certain activities
(activity limitation) and interact with the world around (participation
restriction)” – CDC Centres for Disease Control and Prevention
oDisability resulting “from interaction between persons with impairments and
attitudinal and environmental barriers that hinders their full and effective
participation in society on an equal basis with others” – United Nations
General Assembly 2007
oPeople with disability have “health conditions or impairment that are
associated with limitations or restrictions lasting 6 months or more and which
affect daily activities” – Australian Bureau of Statistics
oDisability is something that impairs people in their everyday lives
