Document Summary

Bios 1120 - chapter 4 - cell structure and function. *look at table 4-1 on page 58 for review of cell structures* Lo 1: summarize the cell theory: every living organism is made up of one or more cells the smallest organisms are single cells, cells are the functional units of multicellular organisms, all cells arise from preexisting cells. Dna: nucleoid: consisting primarily of dna, which is one circular chromosome, plasmids: carry genes that give the cell special properties, bacterial cytoplasm includes ribosomes and food granules. Fluid would not move upward because the beating of the flagella would direct fluid straight out of the cell membranes. Mucus and trapped particles would accumulate in the trachea. Condensation allows the chromosomes to become organized and separated from one another, so that a complete copy of genetic information can be distributed to each of the daughter cells that results from cell division. It allows them to merge with one another.
