Children"s security of attachment to caregivers affect feelings about themselves. Attachment experiences colors early sense of self. Self: conceptual system made up of one"s thoughts and attitudes about oneself. 2-4 mon infants have sense of ability to control objects outside themselves. 3-5 mon infants looked longer and moved legs more when video showed their leg movements from a perspective other than their own. Self becomes more distinct at 8 mon infants react with distress if parted from their mother separate entities. Infant"s emerging recognition of self becomes more directly apparent by 18-20 mon of age. Look into mirror and realize that they are looking at themselves. Child in front of mirror sees spot and clean spot children younger than 18 mon respond by touching image in the mirror. By 18 mon children touch rouge on their own face. Age 2: children recognize themselves in photographs.
