Ex: sense of ability to control objects outside themselves (happy when they can control movement of mobile with kicks; angry when can no longer do so) Ex: 3-5 months looking at video of their own leg movement looked longer when the video wasn"t from their own perspective because more interesting. 8 months: infants react with separation distress if parted from mother, suggesting they know they and their mother are separate entities. 1 year: show joint attention with respect to objects in the environment. 18 to 20 months: look in mirror and realize they are looking at themselves.
