This is the 2nd from the bottom specification. 2nd part of the binomial is the species: hierarchical classification. Species --> genus --> family --> order --> class --> phylum --> kingdom --> Named taxonomic unit at any level of the hierarchy. A branching diagram that represents the evolutionary history of a group of organisms. Sometimes taxonomists place species within a genus to which is is not must. 1. b. closely related because over the course of evolution the species has lost a key feature of its close relative. Relationships depicted as a series of dichotomies (two way branch points) on the phylogenetic tree.
