Document Summary

Essenial environment chapter 4: interacions and community ecology. Species interacions are organized into several main categories: compeiion -> when muliple organisms seek the same limited resource. Between members of the same species = intraspeciic. Resource pariioning -> process by which species adapt to compeiion by evolving to use slightly diferent resources/shared resources in diferent ways (minimizes interference: predaion -> process by which predators hunt, kill and consume individuals of another species. Predaion can drive populaion dynamics and has evoluionary ramiicaions. Parasiism -> relaionship in which one organism (the parasite) depends on another (the host) for nourishment and beneits while doing the host harm. Pathogens = parasites that cause disease in hosts. Coevoluion -> parasites and hosts evolve in response to one another. Herbivory -> animals feed on issues of plants: mutualism -> relaionship in which two or more species beneit from interacing with one another. Symbiosis -> relaionship between diferent species of organisms that live in close physical proximity.
